WHAT WE DO.

At ICCA, we serve as the umbrella body that brings together all community conservancies in Isiolo County. Our work focuses on:

  • Conservation Management – supporting conservancies to protect wildlife, restore habitats, and safeguard biodiversity.
  • Community Development – strengthening local governance, empowering youth and women, and improving livelihoods through conservation-linked enterprises.
  • Capacity Building – providing training, mentorship, and technical support in conservation, governance, and natural resource management.
  • Advocacy & Representation – giving a united voice to conservancies in county, national, and international platforms.
  • Partnership Building – connecting local conservancies with donors, government agencies, and development partners to maximize impact.

Areas of Operation

ICCA coordinates and supports community conservancies across Isiolo County, covering rangelands, forests, and wildlife corridors. Our areas of operation include:

  • Northern and Eastern Isiolo – focusing on dryland ecosystems and pastoralist communities.
  • Southern Isiolo – working on human-wildlife coexistence and land management.
  • Urban & Peri-Urban Zones – engaging communities in sustainable resource use and environmental awareness. Together, these areas form an interconnected conservation landscape that sustains biodiversity and strengthens community resilience.

Spirit of Collaboration

Our strength lies in working together. ICCA promotes inclusivity, transparency, and collective decision-making by:

  • Encouraging unity among conservancies for stronger bargaining power.
  • Building partnerships with government, NGOs, and private sector.
  • Fostering a culture of trust and accountability within member conservancies.
  • Promoting shared learning where experiences and best practices are exchanged across communities.

This spirit of collaboration ensures that conservation is not just about protecting nature, but also about improving lives, reducing conflict, and creating a sustainable future for Isiolo’s people and ecosystems.
