🌍 ICCA Unveils 5-Year Strategic Plan to Strengthen Community Conservancies in Isiolo
The Isiolo County Conservancies Association (ICCA) has officially launched its five-year Strategic Plan, marking a major step forward in strengthening community-led conservation across Isiolo County.
Established in 2023, ICCA serves as the umbrella body for community conservancies, providing a unified voice and coordinated support in a region shaped by pastoral livelihoods, ecological mobility, and growing development pressures.
Community conservancies in Isiolo continue to play a critical role in biodiversity conservation, rangeland management, peacebuilding, climate resilience, and local economic development. However, they also face significant challenges, including recurrent drought, human-wildlife conflict, limited financial resources, and institutional gaps.
The newly launched Strategic Plan provides a clear roadmap to address these challenges by focusing on five key priorities:
Strengthening partnerships with the Isiolo County Government
Expanding funding and collaboration opportunities
Enhancing governance and management capacity of conservancies
Building strong data and knowledge systems
Promoting sustainable livelihoods for local communities
Through this plan, ICCA aims to build resilient conservancies, empowered communities, and sustainable ecosystems that benefit both people and nature.
